Aim of today :

To get a Taster of all the subject on offer and see what
life as a Sixth Former at St Michaels Catholic School is
like.
To be able to answer any questions/ concerns you may
have .

            Are you ready ?

As a Sixth Former you will have your own part to play. You must have a serious
commitment to work hard; you must play a far more active role in your lessons
and you must start taking greater responsibilities for your own education and
wider community.
If you are prepared to accept this type of commitment, St Michaels Sixth form can
be the most rewarding part of your education so far.

Studying sixth form at St Michael’s Catholic School will not only provide you with a
good education but also prepare you for the real world. For example, as Head Boy I
had to organise fundraisers and events helping me build my leadership and public
speaking skills, I included many other students allowing them to build these skills
with me. As our sixth form is much smaller than most schools it feels more like a
‘family’. Everyone is there for each other and the teachers can spend more time on
each student due to the small class sizes. Also the safeguarding staff were always
present and ready to tackle and problems that you were facing. Sixth form can be
stressful but St Michael’s made me journey as smooth as possible.
Thank you
Vaitshnavan Kuselan

GCSE Maths & English

It is becoming increasingly difficult for students to enter Further or
Higher Education courses without a 4 in GCSE Maths or English.
Similarly many employers are now also looking for these
qualifications and will not short-list candidates without these
grades

For these reasons we offer the facility for all students who do not
have a 4 grade in Maths and English at GCSE because they did not
take their GCSE’s in this country, the chance to re-sit / re-take and
hopefully improve on their GCSE grades

Student Enrichment Programme

Students are offered guidance and chance to obtain and
improve valuable life skills through the Sixth Form PSHE
programme

Over the two years students will cover sessions on
enrichment opportunities, relationships, Knife crime,
gangs, drugs, alcohol, preparation for employment and
Higher Education to name but a few areas in this diverse
programme

Alongside these PSHCE sessions we offer a wide range
of guidance, including:

Sixth Form study skills
Careers and Higher Education Guidance
Individual counselling as appropriate
PE for leisure
Volunteering opportunities

Enrichment Activities

Students are given a choice of activities which
include :
Paired Reading
Mind
CAFORD
Mentoring – Year 8
EPQ
Core Maths
Finance
Sports
Oxbridge prep

Part-time Jobs

Research shows that…

Students who have a part-time job for up to eight
hours a week gain new skills that can improve their A
Level grades

Students who have a part-time job for more than ten
hours a week do
not
 achieve the grades they are
capable of
