  2. DEFINATION-IT IS DEFINE AS CONDITION OF HAVING A DEVELOPING EMBRYO OR FOETUS IN UTERUS . The product of conception is called zygote upto 9thday . Embryo during 9day 9week later later is known as foetus

  3. MEDICOLEGALASPECTS - Lady puts forth pregnancy as bar for capital punishment . Pregnancy at time of marriage is ground for nullity of marriage In case of devorce holds herself liable to greater maintainance on ground of pregnancy On death of husband holds herself liable for greater compensation When pregnant charge somebody with breach of promise of marriage When girls blackmail someone alleging that her pregnancy is through him When girl is being blackmailed for being pregnant. When girls is below 18 or married below 15 years become pregnant.

  4. SIGNS OF PREGNANCY- a) Signs of pregnancy in living female 1. Presumptive sings Suppretion of menstruation Morning sickness Changes in breasts Pigmentation of skin Changes in vagina quickening Urinary disturbanes

  5. 2.Probable signs Changes in abdomen Softening of lower utrine segment Softening of os Cervical mucous plug Intermittent contractions and relaxations Ballottment Uterine souffle Immunological tests 3.Positive/confirmatory signs Foetal heart sounds Palpation of foetal parts Palpation of foetal movements Radiograpy Ultrasonography .

  6. B- SIGNS OF PREGNANCY IN DEAD FEMALE 1. As in living 2. Uterus Uterus enlarged , may be upto 25 x 30 cm Weight may be upto 1kg Foetus present Site of placental attachment seen 3. Ovary corpus leuteum seen

  7. C. DIAGNOSIS OF FOETAL DEATH IN UTERUS 1. In early pregnancy The uterus does not grow in size 2. In 2ndhalf of pregnancy- I. Clinical examination a) FHS absent b) Foetal movement absent c) Uterus size does not correspond to duration of pregnancy II. Radiography a) There is over riding of skull bone i.e. spaulding sign is positive III. Ultrasonography IV. Amniotic fluid is brown and turbid V. Immunological tests are negative
