  4. Membership Ideas In my research about Port Captains it became very clear that Port Captains were not on our Radar. Some Clubs did not have a Port Captain. Others did not know we trained Port Captains. Worse, if they did, it was rare a Port Captain was ever asked for information or assistance.

  5. Port Captains & Membership * Let me share these great tips about Port Captains . They gather and share important information * They encourage new members to join, Share how we use our great Benefit Tools and They are visible examples of our boating and civic comradery . A Port Captain is just one of your connections to the entire National America s Boating Club.   6. Port Captains & Membership *Tell your Port Captain you appreciate their efforts. *Ask your Port Captain to share information in your Club Newsletter or speak at group meetings. *A Port Captain can be an important voice for your Boating Club. *Have you talked to your Port Captain lately?

Boating Seminars *Ask them if they ever thought about boating but didn t Then ask WHY. Active member of the local America s Boating Club Familiar with the local waterways Outgoing personality to interact easily with boaters and boating services Willing to assist with friendly advice and directions Able to direct inquirers to local America s Boating Club contacts, activities and sources for supplies and services

  11. Port Captain How do I find a Port Captain? Web Sites: usps.org or americasboatingclub.org 1. Log in as a member 2. Go To Site Index 3. Select Port Captains 4. From Left menu, select Port Captains; from drop-down select: Find a Port Captain Search by: State, Area, Waterway, Chart and or Squadron

  12. Port Captain Program We are known as America s Boating Club To be successful as a Club we must be visible to persons wanting to know who we are and what we do. A Port Captain should always be at the ready to respond appropriately to inquiries from members. Non-members should be encouraged to join and list the benefits available to them when they join the Club . Port Captains are Ambassadors of shared learning among all members to have safe fun on the water.

Port Captain Responsibilities For Boaters By Boaters * Port Captains are under no obligation to provide more than friendly advice. * Port Captains should be familiar with service providers, lodging, shopping, and emergency contacts. * Port Captains should develop a team effort among adjoining Port Captains to provide continuity regarding information to traveling boaters. *Port Captains should promote friendship and a sense of welcome to all by meeting them if possible and inviting them to join in a meeting or activity while in the area.

Ideas how to be a better Port Captain Keep an organized notebook of current emergency contact information List hours of operation and contact information for restaurants, shopping and service providers Have current information on Club meetings and local activities Have a list of interesting persons from your Club or boating circles who enjoy meeting up with visitors to your area Make a special effort to introduce yourself to Marina personnel, restaurants, boat service providers, Law Enforcement, Community Leaders and others who might assist you in providing current and interesting information to visitors.
