  1. SCBA - 2 Subject: SCBA Training # 2 Equipment: CFD Book & SOP Manual Full Turnout Gear Extension Ladder SCBA (with spare air tanks) for each student Hoods for Masks Manikin Accountability equipment Maze @ CFD Training Building Instructors Needed: One instructors & one assistant (one instructor for every 4 trainees) Teaching Methods: Firehouse lecture and discussion & practical demonstration on subject matter

  2. SCBA - 2 Reference: Essentials of fire fighting SOP Manual Drager training DVD Objectives: position. To discuss various parts of the SCBA and Donning procedure. To introduce students to low profile, quick release and standby Cleaning and inspection of the SCBA. Review search procedures Review SCBA Training drill # 2 Review the parts descriptions of The Drager SCBA. Donning the Mask in both, the sitting & standing positions. Removal of the mask. Changing the air cylinder.

  3. SCBA - 2 Usable Air Time: This depends on several factors; Physical condition Psychological stability Ability to control breathing Training and experience Work activity Full status of air cylinder when you start The cylinder is referred to as a 45 minute bottle, but your real working time will be about 16 minutes and 9 minutes of escape time.

  4. SCBA - 2 Controlled Breathing: Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. Hold air in you lungs about 3 to 4 seconds to maximum oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange. Skip breathing in an emergency situation only. Inhale fully and hold breath for normal time, Take and additional breath before exhalation. Exhale slowly and repeat cycle Communication: The face piece is equipped with a voice diaphragm, place microphone of portable radio in the proximity of the diaphragm.

  5. SCBA - 2 Stand-by Position: After pack is in normal position and the face piece is attached, place mask on hook on the right front side of your turn out coat.

  6. SCBA 2 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Emergency Procedures: Emergency procedures are used when a firefighter becomes trapped and is running out of air or the equipment has malfunctioned. Transmit a mayday mayday mayday your location (etc. 2nd floor exposure 2-3 side), and any other information that will help the OIC and RIT to locate you. Active the Manual pass alarm, yellow button located on the Sentinel, just below the flashing green light.

  7. SCBA 2 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Low Profile: This procedure will enable the firefighter to pass though an obstacle without removing his/her SCBA or face piece in a smoke environment. Fully loosen the right shoulder strap and slid right arm out. Grasp the waist strap in the stomach area with the right hand. Grasp the neck of the cylinder with the left hand. Twist the cylinder and the harness to your left until the bottle is almost under your left arm. At this point you should be able to pass the obstacle or narrow area by walking or crawling through sideways. After passing the obstacle, twist the SCBA back to the normal position. Slid the right arm back through the strap! Adjust all the straps for comfort.

  8. SCBA 2 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Quick Release: This procedure is performed should your SCBA assembly becomes tangled by debris or wires from behind. Extend both shoulder straps Remove right shoulder strap Grasp left shoulder strap at the shoulder with the left hand. Note: This is done to prevent the mask from suddenly freeing itself Release waist strap with right hand You can now turn to the left to free the pack or swing it in front of yourself so you can get out of a bad situation example, collapse. Swing pack over left shoulder and re-do pack.

  9. SCBA 2 Maintenance & Inspection: Replace cylinder if it is less than 3000 psi Inspect O ring in the rubber hand wheel. Inspect gasket in face piece regulator. Weekly Check of SCBA: Cylinder pressure Make sure that all straps are fully extended. Make sure that the cylinder is secured to the back plate Check for cracks, cuts, abrasions, dents and missing parts. Cleaning Face Piece: Submerge in approved cleaner/disinfectant with warm water Rinse in warm water Air dry

  10. SCBA - 2 Search Procedure Looking for Victims and or Fire: Accountability system! You should work in teams of 2 or3 When you enter the building it will be a left or right search (that is a left or right hand on the wall) You will not pass a door, it will be opened (your team should have a set of irons) and that area searched (this may not be done in the same drill) Count the number of doors you enter or pass because on the way out you can pass these rooms Remember you have about 16 minutes of work, or when the low air whistles alarm sounds, when that happens, you get out. Use your free arm and tool to reach the center of the room. Be careful with the tool as to not injure the victim You can also use your leg under beds. Outward opening doors are closets or basements Inward opening doors are bathrooms, bedrooms, front & rear doors If you pass a window, think about opening it and remember that this could by our way out. If you enter through a window, the first thing to do is close the door to that room than search. When you come out, report to the OIC the areas that you searched and the areas that you didn t search.

  11. SCBA 2 Hands-On Search in Training Building: Maze students to enter the maze one at a time to work on their breathing control and search ability. Students will search closet, halls, stairs and breach wall 3 rooms in training building Enter through one of the outside doors or second floor window. Search around furniture and work both floors (Find and remove victims)
