PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS Parent Expectations: Be present and on time Arrive at least 15 minutes before practice to make sure we are ready to get started timely! If your skater is not going to be there, let us know (let your manager know once teams are broken out) Communicate In order for us to succeed, we want to hear your feedback, we ask that it is constructive! Be their biggest cheerleader/supporter Encourage your child, cheer for your child. Help elevate them and be a confident in their abilities. The more fun they have the more success they will have
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS Program Expectations Consistent Schedule: Unfortunately in hockey, this is very difficult. We try to keep them to Sat/Sun mornings for Mini Mites/6U and Sat/Sun/Wed for Mites/8U Well prepared coaches: Coaches will be prepared with practice plans and ideas ahead of time. Implemented a new program Hockey Share for our lead coaches to communicate to all assistant coaches! On the Mite Page website, we will have practice plans out there for coaches and parents to see as well. Skill Development: Team placement progression skills in November and in the Spring. Super cool to see how much progress they make. Adding Coaches comments for each child/parent to read! This is not rocket science- it is timed drills so speed Communication: From Managers/Coaches to keep you in the loop on what is happening- Never be afraid to ask FUN: Most important aspect is to develop a love of the game and continue to show up!
LEVEL STRUCTURE 8U Typically 2nd/3rd grade girls in their (3rd-5th year skaters) Mite Black Typically 2nd/3rd grade boys (3rd-5th year skaters) Mite Grey Typically 2nd/3rd grade boys (1st- 5th year skaters) Mini Mites Purple Typically K-1st grade boys/girls (2nd-3rd year skaters) Mini Mites White Typically PreK-1st grade boys/girls (1st year skaters, some 2nd year) Goalies: We encourage those skaters interested in goalie to continue to skate out and develop their skills. Goalies are introduced at the Mite/8U level and occasionally are brought in at mini mite for introduction to the position. Last year Mites and 8U (3rd graders) we will be having MITE/8U Focused Goalie clinics throughout the year. We are hoping to get 1 hour each month, but that is still being worked out. There is no fee for this. The association also has equipment you can borrow.
TEAM PLACEMENT PROGRESSION November 2nd, 5th, 6th(I know, its deer opener .you can figure it out ) 2-3 Nights, run through 4-5 drills Each drill 2x s Timed drills Take best time This is to help put into your final group and then each group will have teams within it. Posted on the website as well as emailed out
ICE STRUCTURE Season starts October 19th and will go through March 12th 2023 Mites/8U typically 3 hours a week, Wed/Sat/Sun Games on Saturdays (occasionally on Sunday and a Friday depending on ice) 8U Sunday funday league with NWC, Anoka, Rogers, surrounding area Minis typically 2 hours a week, occasionally 3. Sat & Sun In house games on Saturdays ALL teams will skate with their group (unless a game is scheduled)
ON ICE STRUCTURE Early in the season, focus for all levels will solely be on skill development during practices Practices follow USA Hockey Age specific practice plans (ADM Model + Buffalo Enhancements) Typically 3-6 rotating stations focus on skills and small area games Increase puck touches, involvement and skill development Decrease down time
GAMES/JAMBOREE Games: Black/Grey/8U: 2 Full ice Games + ice and ice games Travel is possible (St. Cloud/STMA/Monti/Elk River etc.) Minis: Cross ice games (Ice divided into 3 sections) No Travel besides Mite Scramble (Monti/STMA) FOR ALL TRAVEL GAMES We schedule as soon as we can. It is inevitable there will be changes. We prefer changes to be at least 1 weeks notice, but we do not control the schedulers, mistakes or last minute changes. Jamborees/Tournaments: NEW 2022-2023 season Black/Grey/8U: 1-2 Tournaments local Purple/White: 1 tournament (Sauk Rapids typically 1st weekend in March) Mite Scramble (cross ice games between STMA/Monti/Buffalo) Sat/Sun Date TBD
VOLUNTEER INFO Mite/Travel Level Families with one skater must contribute 15 hours of volunteer time. Families with two or more skaters must contribute 20 hours of volunteer time. If you are a Mini-Mite/6U Family with one skater, you must contribute 5 hours of volunteer time. New for the 2022-23 season, we are just having volunteer hours. (Standard / Tournament hours have gone away we hope this is less confusing.) There is no maximum number of hours a family can contribute in a given year. There is no roll- over of volunteer hours from year to year. Volunteers must complete Background screening prior to Locker Room Monitoring or prior to completing certain positions as required by MN Hockey/USA Hockey (e.g. Team Manager, Coach, Board Member) and SafeSport Training as required by MN Hockey/USA Hockey (e.g. Team Manager, Coach).
TEAM MANAGERS What do they do? Communicate to the team. Work with coaches & mite manager on communication to team Organize group events for team Expectations: Team party (Encouraged 1 before Jan 1st and at least one after) Great way to meet eachother! SAFESPORT USA Hockey has long had systems in place to protect its participants from physical abuse, sexual abuse and other types of abuse and misconduct that can be harmful to youth hockey players and other participants. All Managers and Coaches are SafeSport Certified to protect your child If you have any concerns, report the incident immediately. Contact Kelly Hinnenkamp or Michelle Munn with any questions
OTHER INFO Jerseys: Every child will get a jersey with their number preference and name on the back once teams are formed Socks will be given out as well UNTIL THEN- wear whatever jersey you have and socks. If you need one let me know! Team Pictures: There will be team pictures. More to come from your manager Rink Rat Program: Fun way to get swag! 10 hours outside ice for Minis, 15 hours outside ice for Mites/8U Wild Game/Gopher Intermission: This program is back, Last year Mites/8U get the opportunity to skate during an intermission game for the wild and gophers mens/womens!
