Slide Note

My name is Wayne Carter, the Exec. Director of MSDA I’ve been here 3 years. I was involved in Main Street in Eustis for over 8 years. First as a volunteer, then Event Coordinator, then ED.

What I hope to be able to do today is a give you a way to understand the big picture things that your community is doing in the revitalization process and as a result be able to better focus your Main Street efforts at the 4-Point approach. In addition, you will have a tool to help explain what Main Street is and does. I think DeLand is a great downtown and there are reasons for it. To start, let’s go back 30 years or so.

DeLand, Florida's First Main Street City, faced challenges but thrived through community efforts and events. Wayne Carter, the Executive Director of MainStreet DeLand Association, led the way with initiatives like street scaping, partnerships, and cultural events. Despite economic downturns, the city persevered, hosting festivals, parades, and fundraisers, revitalizing the community spirit. The journey reflects resilience, creativity, and collaboration in urban revitalization, showcasing how a small town can make a big impact.
