  3. CRG is here for help and support. CRG is ready to provide telepsychology services for you, your learners and your family as appropriate. Please call us at 317. 575.9111, Option 3 for more information. If you are an existing patient, we can arrange a video session that is convenient to your schedule. Sessions are conducted via GoToMeeting. If you are new to CRG, you can request an Intake Consultation to determine how CRG can meet you and your family s needs. Customary session fees apply. Telepsychology services may not be covered by insurance.

  4. So Your Childs IEP Became an FEP (A Family Education Plan) Helpful Hints For Homebound Families and Virtual Instructors

  5. Early Days This is the beginning of a new way of living and learning. Allow time to adjust to the new normal. This is not a vacation. This is not a snow day. This is not a sick day.

  6. Write Your Family Educational Goals The FEP goals should reflect the family s values: Goals should be specific. We will work on eLearning from 9am 2pm. We will exercise inside and outside for 30 minutes a day. Get REAL: Realistic expectations This is new to all of us and we ll find our way through it. Emotional ups and downs are going to be part of the adjustment period. Active Stay physically, mentally and socially active. Exercise, play games, and use social media to stay connected. Lead by example take the opportunity to learn new skills and create new ways of doing things.

  7. Charting Progress Take note of what is getting accomplished. Do things that allow you to complete a task. Remember small accomplishments matter. Start slow and build up to more challenging tasks.

  8. Your FEP Team Every family member has something to contribute. Chores Tutoring Technology Support Entertainment Every student has unique educational needs.   9. FEP Accommodations Frequently used IEP accommodations can be used for the FEP: Supervision of Non-Instructional Time Play a game, watch a show with your students . Cues and Prompts for Focusing Attention To get things moving use timers, challenges such as first one done gets Special Arrangements for Arrival/Departure It s ok to have flexible start and stop times unless on-line demands don t allow for flexibility. Use of Preferred Learning Style - Use what works best; read assignment to the student, provide an example, be available for questions, have the student repeat the instructions.   10. FEP Accommodations (contd) Small Group Instruction Let your homebound students work together for some part of each day. Let the student present a topic of interest to the group. Peer Tutor Assistance Let other family members supervise or instruct. Review Let the learners give a summary or demonstration about what they have learned. A showcase of today s accomplishments can be part of the learning. Reduce Distractions - Institute time periods of Library Rules quiet, no talking, sitting still.   11. Writing FEP Goals eLearning John will work toward completing his math assignments on his own. Savanah will learn to log on to her assignments and read the directions herself before asking for help.

  12. FEP Behavior Goals Mom will develop skills to manage anger and resolve conflict appropriately. Bill will develop skills to accept responsibility for self. Smith family members will demonstrate dignity and respect for self and others. All the Smith children will practice sharing with their siblings. Parents will use praise and corrective feedback before punishment.

  13. Strategies Strategies for implementing accommodations Encourage John to verbalize his feelings. Plan to ignore Monica s whining after redirecting her. Develop a Rewards Program for family members who make progress on their goals. Recommend family members chill out as well as using time out.

  14. Strategies (contd) One-on-one teaching may be needed. Sessions should include relaxation and breaks for not only the student but the parent/peer tutor. Praise family members who demonstrate good social skills and adaptability. Keep a predictable but flexible schedule. Plan for transitions and relaxation/regrouping when things don t go as planned. Use computer technology. Set up a schedule for sharing as needed.

  16. The Family Report A daily Family Report may acknowledge family members positive behavior and identify negative behaviors with a recommendation of how to improve the next day. John, you did a great job of finishing your spelling and playing with Legos today. Tomorrow let s work on being a little quieter when you re in the family room. Good job today!
