  2. Agriculture - the planting of seeds and growing crops.

  3. Wampum A string of small beads made from shells, to record decisions by members of the Iroquois League

  4. Longhouse Long wooden building that was covered by bark or grass and shared by several families

  5. Palisades Fenced walls made of logs

  6. Tamanend Once a famous leader of the Lenni Lenape

  7. Native Americans Arrive!!! Ice age ended Glaciers, wind, and water shaped the Allegheny and Pocono Mountains. Rich, fertile valleys

  8. Survival! Resources were used to build shelters, for tool making and hunting and fishing Nomadic lifestyle .moved around in search of food. 3,000 years ago Native Americans began to plant their own crops(agriculture) Three Sisters planting corn, beans squash in same hole

  9. 1600s PA Native American Groups There were two groups of Native Americans in Pennsylvania 1. Algonquian- which included the Lenni Lenapi and Shawnee 2. Iroquois- which included the Susquehannock and Iroquois . The groups shared similar language and way of life.

  15. Facts: Lived in longhouses To end fighting among themselves they formed Iroquois League of Five Nations to form rules for everyone to follow. Became the most powerful group of Native Americans in North America Our Constitution is based on their rules. Used wampum

  16. Facts: Lived in Longhouses Built palisades for protection Always at war couldn t stay together Died out by 1763 An Iroquois group
