  3. An Exciting Proposal for Mental Health Mental ill health in the UK continues to have profound social and economic effects A step change in mental health care delivery Accelerating and developing innovative new therapies and products In 2019 / 2020 the economic and social cost of mental ill- health to the economy was 119bn. Grade II listed buildings not fit for purpose (CQC) Estate falls short against clinical building guidance The Oxford Brain Health Science Campus Proposal OHFT is an outlier for MH LOS A state-of-the-art mental health hospital, providing the best opportunity for recovery, co-located with a brain health research facility and a new post- graduate college. Will anchor the first Brain Sciences cluster in the UK tackling the world s biggest health challenge, it will drive a 1.54bn gross added value (GVA) growth opportunity. Workforce split across 3 sites increases risk Staff well being poorly supported Staff shortages = lack of consistent regular care for patients The potential to develop world class brain research exists in Oxford Warneford Hospital Redevelopment - Board of Directors - Public Session 3

  4. We want to transform the patient experience Warneford Park has the oldest inpatient unit still in use across the entire NHS estate still providing compassionate care in a Grade II listed building that has little changed from its origins as the asylum on the hill in 1824 The constraints of the estate hinder the provision of therapeutic activity Grade II listing compromises safe adaption to be a fit for purpose mental health environment Wards are not designed for least restrictive practice and alternate approaches to supporting patients in immediate crisis Poor acoustics lead to a noisy environment for patients (banging doors, echoey corridors). This severely hinders those patients with a neuro- diverse condition and their care within current environments Warneford Hospital Redevelopment - Board of Directors - Public Session
