Growth and Interest in Citizen Science Growth and Interest in Citizen Science Citizen science has a long history, but in the past few years it has moved from a niche activity on the periphery of scientific engagement to a level of public and policy recognition that has launched it as a force in mainstream science, such that it is finally being taken seriously by the science community. Dedicated full time staff working on citizen science in state governments e.g. Victorian EPA, NSW OEH, Australian Museum. Australia s Chief Scientist attended the inaugural Citizen Science Conference in July 2015. Christopher Pyne funding package ($930,000) to support citizen science February 2016. Eureka Prize for citizen science was created in 2016.
