It is nota great area,however, this doesnotstop studentsfrom rentinghere as rentsare a lot cheaper.But you should notexpect what shere, as there is not much.You are a bus ride away from Gunwharf shopping center and the Uni or approximately a 20-40 mins walk to Uni depending on where you are. Frattontrain stationis closeby thoughwhich can easilytransport you to the city at quitea reasonable price. Old Portsmouth-This placeis notstudent-central, butit is a serene escape fromthe burden of studies.Take a trip throughtimeinto thehistoryof Portsmouth.There are a few if not any student houseshere dueto the locationand the remarkablebuildingsthat coverit. It is very near to the centre of town and the main Uni campus which is perfect for any student. There are plenty of nice pubs in OldPortsmouth.There are many placesto visit,good spotto take the parentswhen they come downto visityou. NorthEnd- This is lowon students,and morefor families.It is a nice area with plentyof leafystreets lined with Victorianhouses,but just not famouswith studentsas it is too far to get into Southsea and the Uni. This is definitely notmuch nightlifeotherthan localpubs. Eastney- Thisplacehas scenicstrolls, serene parks,and a beautiful Esplanade.It is perfectfor those who enjoythe quietersideof life. Thisarea is not famousfor studentsbut it wins the prize for the mostscenicbeauty.Thereare a few studenthousesdottedaboutbut as it is situatedon the southeastside of the island,it is a trek intotown. It is covered by many parksand the Esplanade provideslovelywalks alongthe seafront.This placeis definitely worth a visit. Buckland- Thisplace is unique. Thisis notas famous as others but the inexpensiveness of the area attractsstudents thatare not lookingfor a huge price tag. The accommodationis mainly terraced houses with the odd semi-detachedhouse.This area covers the BrittanyFerriesport,so traffic can get fairly bad. Morrisonsand McDonald sare the go-toplacesfor the students,althoughmany peopletravelinto the centerfora morelivelynight. Copnor-This is locatedslightlyNorth ofcentre of the PortseaIsland,this area is home to fewer students butnevertheless, the plethoraof parksthat coverthe area are a majorattractionto many. Moneyfields Park and the Great Salterns Recreation Ground are on your doorstep as well as the Ocean RetailPark which houses many usefulshopssuchas TK Maxxand generalhomeware.Houses are less expensive due to the distanceto the maincenter andthe Universitycampus.The Star& Garter, the Golden Hind, and the Phoenixwill beyourlocals. Eastney- This area is a little less famous but surely wins the prize for most scenic. It is located on the southeastside of the island,surroundedbymany parksand the Esplanade,it reallyis a home away from home. There are much more green spaces to enjoy and larger, more roomy homes. It has a small high street that will cater to your local needs, a Tesco Express, and local Fruit and Butcher shops,but for more conventionalshoppingneedsa journey willneedto be madeto the center.
